Summer Reading in 2017 Was a Success!

With the community’s support, over 48,000 children, teens, and families actively participated in Summer Reading and went on an adventure this last Summer. Attendance has increased by  this year.

Over 10,000 children, teens, & adults signed up for the program.

Over 3,900 children & teens received reading incentives.

Over 49,000 books were read countywide.

Over 300+ STEM / STEAM events were offered over the Summer.

Over 200+ Literacy events were offered over the Summer.

Over 2,000+ events countywide.

The Library leveraged over 60+ partnerships in the Summer.

The Library introduced the community to county and community leaders through the newly launched Guest Reader program. 25 Guest Readers were featured.

Over $700,000+ value donated in Reading Incentives.

Over 15+ teens volunteered over 200+ hours for the Lunch at the Library program.

9,381 meals served this year at Lunch at the Library, across 4 branches.

The Kern County Library was featured this year in the New York Times for its outstanding success in the Lunch at the Library initiative in California.
