SJVLS Photo Heritage Collection

The project provided the 9 public libraries of the San Joaquin Valley Library System (SJVLS) with equipment and training so that they could digitize portions of their historical photograph collections. This Project aimed to improve access to historical images found in the region, to preserve the photographs and their valuable content, and to put in place the equipment, skills, and infrastructure that would enable the SJVLS member libraries to work independently to digitize the unique content in their collections. would not have been possible without the support of the California State Library, and the funding available under the Library Services and Technology Act.

California Fine Arts Collection

The California Fine Arts Collection, placed throughout the Beale Memorial Library, are a selection of works by 19th and 20th century California artists. The collection was begun in 1987 and completed in 1995; it was made possible through funds raised by the Kern County Library Foundation. These funds were the result of generous donations by private citizens and businesses. No public funds or tax money was sought or utilized to purchase the art. The gathering of these pieces took 8 years of diligent research and careful consideration by the members of the Art Acquisition Committee. Their goal had been to build a collection that is a source of pride and pleasure to all the residents of Kern County and those who come to visit from other areas.
