Les Vaughn booth in the Kern County Fair Midway, 1926. Kern County Museum.

The annual Kern County Fair is back again this September 23 – October 4, 2015. Since 1916, the Kern County Fair has given joy to Kern County residents — through carnival games, exciting rides, delicious food, and livestock auctioning. Who doesn’t have heartwarming memories of a delectable funnel cake, bar-b-que smoke, and flashing lights? The Kern County Fair means something a little different to everyone, but it is something that most community members adore and look forward to as an Autumn highlight. At the end of the month, the heat will begin to die down and an evening at the fair will be added to your memories.

Till then — treat your little ones to these adorable books about animals and livestock — all in preparation for the moo-ing of the cows, baa-ing of the goats, and cluck-ing of the chickens you will visit!
