History of the Buttonwillow Branch Library
Buttonwillow is a small, farming community located 30 miles west of Bakersfield. Since 1938, the Buttonwillow Branch Library was housed in the same small adobe building, located directly across form Buttonwillow Elementary School. For many years, it served as a school library, due to its closeness to the local school. Since the adobe building was deemed unsafe, the library branch was relocated to a former bank in downtown Buttonwillow in 2014. Most of the Buttonwillow Branch Library customers are children, with many of them crowding into the branch after school to wait their turn on a computer or to check out a book.
